When we were approved for the Katie Beckett medical waiver, I discovered that music therapy is covered. I contacted Melissa and she was so kind and prompt in getting us started. My daughter had music therapy with Erin for a summer and then transitioned to working with Millie. I am seeing a trend here — people who go into music therapy are tender hearted, encouraging, and uplifting! In 18 months of doctor visits, therapy visits, and seeing specialists — music therapy has been the most valuable and helpful use of our time. “Elise is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and is wheelchair dependent. She requires help with all aspects of her care and life. Elise has always loved music and has received Music Therapy since she was 3 years old. She can move in space independently, vocalize sounds/words, follow 1 and 2 step commands, and learn/identify new vocabulary words every month with the use of music. Music Therapy is truly something she can participate in that brings her much joy but also improves her skills in daily life. Since all her sisters had other extracurricular activities, we considered music to be that for Elise. It is so amazing to watch your child enjoying herself and doing more with the help of music!
